These guys decided to produce a live DVD from one of their gigs as their debut to the public. It's well produced and way then, Mocambo operated as a Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute band. Since then, they wrote real Mocambo blues songs themselves, a cd is due within a few months.
New to Mocambo Blues: Anita on da real deal Hammond Organ, which give the sound of the band an extra uplift and dimension.
Mocambo Blues is booked for the 2010 edition of Culemborg Blues, a great Dutch bluesfest.

More than 40 years an Icon: Miller Anderson.
This is a great version of "Just to Cry", written by Miller and recorded with the Keef Hartley band.
Keef Hartley band featured at the original 1969 Woodstock Festival, a shame their performance hasn't been recorded..

Now, after 40 years with ups and downs, Miller is still going strong. Tours in the UK, Germany proof he is still a superb guitarist and songwriter.

TINARIWEN: Amazing blues from the Sahara desert. The band actually formed in 1982 in Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi's rebel camp, but these desert warriors soon concentrated on their Malian homeland. As with their countrymen Ali Farka Toure and Boubacar Traoré, there is a direct line between Tinariwen's desert songs and the blues. Composed of six guitarists-vocalists, a percussionist, and three backup singers, the group plays hypnotic blues figures. When Robert Plant first heard this band perform he stated this was the music he was searching for his whole life!

Yes folks: this is music from blues' motherlode Africa once more!!

Influenced by Southern Rock icons LYNYRD SKYNYRD, DBT manages to create their own fierce, typical southern rock sound. Great tales/ lyrics, great guitars, great band. Saw them live in Doornroosje, Nijmegen,Gelderland a few years ago and they kicked my ass heavy, a 3 hour gig !

MAN! What a great sound. Quite unique. Hypnotic, on the edge. Otis Taylor is called MALCOLM X of the blues. A great artist, genuine in his music and lyrics.

One of the most interesting bands from the past decades in my opinion.
This cold, bare, fanatic, intense sound of David Eugene Edwards and his band... Sacred and: beware you sinners! Humble David Eugene with the bible as his weapon. Awsome!

The live dvd from Sixteen Horsepower shows their great class in songwriting and instrumentation. The king is dead, long live the king! (new king's name is Woven Hand)

I heard this LP GC&DD for the first time when i was 15 years of age. The only music with banjo / country i knew up till then was a song from ANY GET YOUR GUN, the well known musical and Johny Cash of course.
I was struck by the intimacy and gentle, proud instrumentation combined with great vocals. Sunshine! My neighbour gave me the LP as a present instantly because of my reaction. I still treasure it..

Australian Jeff Lang chilling music ! For all fans of Chris Whitley, Ry Cooder, 16 horsepower, Americana and well...just honest good music with lots of chilling slide guitar.

I once saw Little Feat at Rockpalast on German tv in the 70's. It became one of my favourite bands. Lowell explained the technique of bottleneck guitar playing after the show. Very impressive!

This desperate, howling and barenaked song is SO essential to me!
Lee Clayton is so desperate, honest in his lyrics it's almost frightening.
Philip Donelly, his gitarist from Ireland, is a perfect 'translator' for Lee's feelings and thoughts with his outstanding guitar sound.
(cold night in the desert, wolves howling, seeking absolution..)

Robert Lee Burnside: RIP, he died in 2005. His doctors told him NO MORE ALCOHOL. R.L. then decided he could not play the blues without "moonshine" no more.. isn't that THE blues?

Impressive guitar player with a great band. Calls himself ' white trash bluesman' and wrote a book about his typical blues life.
Ron IS the blues!

Not only is Africa the motherlode of the Blues but there is a lot of great blues played over there today!
Desert Blues !

During his life, i was lucky to see and hear 3 performances of him.
First time was in the year his first cd was released at PARKPOP Den Haag. He played a crowd of over 180.000 people.
Second time was at TIVOLI Utrecht. His guitar sound was more intens and raw already compared with first gig.

Last time was at Doornroosje Nijmegen. This was a solo performace in 2003. He looked very fragile, lonely and almost haunted. Did he already suffered from cancer then?
